Hello Classmates,
My name is Eric Whitmore.  First and foremost and I am husband and father to the wonderful family seen in the picture (Holli, Lincoln (4), Bailey (2), Luke (4 months)).  I am a software engineer by trade and currently own a small software engineering and IT consulting company, as well as, work for CMU in the Office of Technology (IT Department).
I am also a graduate of CMU and l am excited that I get the opportunity to continue my education.  This is 5th graduate class I have taken towards the EdTech masters.
When I’m not working, studying or chasing kiddos around the house, I enjoy playing praise and worship songs on my guitar and cycling.  I look forward to participating in this year’s DALMAC bike tour (350 mile cycling trip from Lansing to and over Mackinaw Bridge).

  1. Hi Eric, Its nice to meet you. That bike trip sounds pretty cool, how long does it take for you to go that far? Also unrelated note, I like that picture, the background looks very picturesque, with the snow in the pine trees.

  2. Hi Eric, welcome to the class. Awesome picture of your family, you have very cute kids!! I like that you are not technically an education major, neither am I. I have a health degree. Good luck in your bike race, that sounds like a lot of fun!!

  4. Hi Eric! You have such adorable children! Like you, I am a graduate of CMU and I am excited to graduate with my Master's degree from there as well. I hope the training for the cycling race is going well, I just signed up to run a half-marathon so that training is intense and tiring! Good luck with your race!

  5. Hello Eric,

It is so nice to read more about you and your life in your blog post. First of all, you have a lovely family. It looks like you love spending time together. Where did you take that picture, by the way? It’s a beautiful backdrop.

I bet that you stay busy with three little ones, grad school and working in the IT department at CMU. Are you pursuing your Masters just to continue your education for working at CMU or is there another goal that you have in mind? I am always curious to hear about the reasons behind pursuing continuing education.

I wish you luck in your studies. With your IT background you will likely bring an interesting and practical perspective to this class. I look forward to learning with you and from you.

  6. Hi Eric:

Your blog is enlightening! I really like the set-up. Your IT background is a bit intimidating! I would really like to get into online course design. I think that it is definitely the wave of the future.

Once upon a time ago, I managed an LMS and did a little coding and I mean just a little. It was thrilling. Maybe after this class I will consider another Master's Degree in Educational Technology. I love education!
